The Worldwide Symposium on Geographical Indications will be held on September 6-8, 2021. The event takes place every two years and is organized by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). Given the current global pandemic context, the 2021 edition of the Symposium will take place entirely in online format. The event will bring together representatives of national administrations, producers of products with geographical indications (GI) and specialists in the field from dozens of countries.
Its purpose is to exchange ideas and perspectives on issues relating to the use and protection of geographical indications. It also offers insights and information on recent developments in the field of GI.
According to the Symposium Agenda, several topics will be discussed related to:
- The Socio-economic Impact of Geographical Indications
- Commercialization Strategies for Geographical Indications
- Geographical Indications and Trade
- Geographical Indications and Sustainability
- Challenges for GI and the Internet Domain Name System.
A Virtual Exhibition on Geographical Indications will also be launched during the Symposium, accessible from September 6, 2021 to March 6, 2022. The exhibition will offer visitors an opportunity to discover geographical indications from different countries of the world. The Republic of Moldova will participate in the Exhibition dedicated to geographical indications with a virtual stand.
