The State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI) hosted on November 13, this year, a study visit of a group of students, members of the Law Students’ Association (LSA) of the Faculty of Law of the State University of Moldova. The organizers of this event aimed to provide students with a detailed perspective on the national intellectual property (IP) protection system in order to deepen their knowledge in this field.
A welcoming speech was delivered to the students by the Director General of AGEPI, Eugeniu Rusu, who emphasized the importance of knowing the aspects related to intellectual property, the protection and enforcement of IP rights, mentioning the tools for promoting trademarks, subject-matters protected by copyright and related rights, inventions, as well as other intellectual property objects. At the same time, during the question-and-answer session, the Director General of AGEPI informed the students about the adjustment and harmonization of the national IP legislation with European and international standards, about the cooperation agreements with foreign IP offices and the World Intellectual Property Organization, the impact of artificial intelligence on the IP system, as well as about the measures to combat piracy and counterfeiting, etc.
During the visit, the students of the State University of Moldova were provided by AGEPI specialists with extensive information on the procedures for registration of intellectual property objects, how intellectual property influences innovation and economic development. They were also given valuable details about the importance of knowing and using IP to gain competitive advantages in developing a successful career and valuable practical experience in this field, namely the opportunity to find an internship, a paid internship program or a job within AGEPI. The event was appreciated by the students, who expressed their interest in participating in other similar activities organized by AGEPI in the future.
We would like to point out that AGEPI and LSA signed a Cooperation Agreement in the field of intellectual property in May 2023. The agreement involves ensuring a constructive cooperation in the field of professional training of the members of the aforsaid association in the field of intellectual property, by providing access to public information in the field of intellectual property and to reference sources of information and documentation, and also by providing, upon request, consultancy in the field of intellectual property, etc.
Such visits and exchanges of experience are part of AGEPI’s ongoing efforts to promote and disseminate information about intellectual property, contributing to increasing awareness and respect for intellectual property rights. The Agency aims to continue cooperating with higher education institutions to ensure that future generations of specialists are well informed and prepared to face the challenges in the field of intellectual property.
