The Sixty-Sixth Series of Meetings of the Annual Assemblies of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) are taking place in Geneva, the Swiss Confederation. The event takes place from July 8 to 17, 2025 and brings together over 1,600 delegates from the Organization’s 194 Member States, as well as representatives of international and regional organizations interested in the field of intellectual property.
In his inaugural address, WIPO Director General, Mr. Daren Tang, highlighted the Organization’s recent achievements and highlighted the increasingly complex challenges facing the global intellectual property system. In this context, Mr. Tang called for unity and cooperation, encouraging Member States to take collective action to ensure a sustainable, balanced and inclusive development of the global intellectual property ecosystem.
In his national statement presented at the beginning of the proceedings, the Director General of AGEPI, Mr. Eugeniu Rusu, expressed the Republic of Moldova’s appreciation for the efforts of WIPO and its Member States aimed at addressing current global challenges. At the same time, he welcomed the recent adoption of two landmark international legal instruments – the Genetic Resources Treaty and the Design Law Treaty (DLT) – underlining the active contribution of the Republic of Moldova in the process of their negotiation and adoption.
The work of the Assemblies are chaired by H.E. Alfredo Suescum Alfaro, Ambassador of the Republic of Panama to the WTO, UNCTAD and WIPO. On behalf of the Member States, he expressed gratitude to the Director General of WIPO and the Secretariat of the Organization for the preparation of the current session, while also launching an appeal to the Member States for cooperation in achieving the objectives of the meeting.
The delegation of the Republic of Moldova reaffirmed its active and constant support for the agenda and values promoted by WIPO, expressing its readiness to contribute to the success of the work of the current session.
According to the consolidated agenda, the representatives of the Member States will analyze and adopt decisions on a number of topics of major importance, including: the implementation of the Organization’s development programs, the improvement of the treaties and conventions administered by WIPO. The Member States are also to examine and adopt the WIPO Program and Budget for the next biennium (2026–2027) and to establish the procedure for organizing future elections for the Director General and the leadership positions of WIPO. An important topic of the current series of meetings is dedicated to the situation in Ukraine and the assistance provided by WIPO to ensure the resilience of the innovative and creative sector in the conditions of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine.
During the session, the delegation of the Republic of Moldova has planned bilateral meetings with high-ranking officials from WIPO, as well as with representatives of other international organizations and national intellectual property offices.
Active participation in the Sixty-Sixth Series of Meetings of the WIPO Annual Assemblies provides the Republic of Moldova with an important platform for strengthening its position in the international community and promoting a modern, efficient and internationally compliant national intellectual property system.
