In the period of 21 - 22 July 2016, the Moldovan delegation, consisting of the Director General of the State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI), Octavian Apostol, head of delegation and Tudor Ulianovschi, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Moldova to the UN Office in Geneva, will attend the High-Level Conference on Intellectual Property of countries along the Silk Road and Belt (the so-called BRI states).
The event will be held in Beijing, China, and is organized by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the State Intellectual Property Office of the People’s Republic of China, with the support of the Ministry of Commerce and other public authorities of China.
The conference is designed as a platform for discussion and exchange of experiences on current issues of intellectual property (IP), is intended for senior officials, policy makers and heads of IP offices from countries along the Silk Road and Belt.
In the plenary session of the conference, AGEPI Director General, Octavian Apostol, is expected to present a National Report focused on the development of infrastructure and institutional capacities of the Republic of Moldova on ensuring an effective system of protection of geographical indications.
Also, at the proposal of the Chinese authorities, the Participating States will consider whether to adopt a Joint Initiative to strengthen cooperation between BRI states in the field of intellectual property. The initiative aims at strengthening cooperation in the field of intellectual property between the states of the countries along the Silk Road and Belt, encouraging exchanges of experiences and good practices between them and stimulating joint projects and programs to support the sector.
