The Meeting of the Interstate Council on Legal Protection and Defense of Intellectual Property was held on October 15 this year, in Moscow. Representatives of the intellectual property offices of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Republic of Kyrgyz, Republic of Moldova, Russian Federation, Tajikistan, as well as representatives of the State Intellectual Property Academy of Russia and the Eurasian Patent Organization (OEAB) took part in the meeting. The Republic of Moldova was represented by Diana Stici, head of Legal Department, State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI).
In line with the working agenda, several issues related to the field of protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights have been addressed during the meeting of the Interstate Council. The participants in the meeting provided information on the up-to-date situation in the field of intellectual property protection for the state they represent as well as the implementation of the actions included in the third stage of implementation of the Economic Development Strategy of the Commonwealth of Independent States until 2020. At the same time, information on the draft Protocol amending the Cooperation Agreement on the Protection of Copyright and Related Rights of 24 September 1993 and the draft of a new Agreement on measures to prevent and suppress the use of false trademarks and geographical indications was presented.
Also, a number of organizational issues have been considered. Moldoseva D.A, the representative of the Kyrgyz Republic, a member of the Interstate Council, was reelected as the chairman of the Interstate Council on Legal Protection and Defense of Intellectual Property.
The first meeting of the Interstate Council on Legal Protection and Defense of Intellectual Property took place in 2012. The purpose of the Interstate Council is to coordinate the joint work of improving the interstate system of protection and defense of intellectual property and counteraction of intellectual property offenses.
