The sixth edition of the International IP Enforcement Summit, under the motto “Stronger IP Enforcement in the Digital Age”, was held on 12-13 June 2025 in Athens, Greece. The event, organised by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), in collaboration with the Hellenic Industrial Property Organisation, the Interinstitutional Market Control Unit and the European Commission, saw record participation and a strengthened international dimension compared to previous editions.
The summit focused on finding workable solutions to strengthen the fight against counterfeiting and piracy in Europe, and the world, and featuring a diverse line-up of high-level speakers and international experts. Participants examined the barriers that continue to hinder the effective combating of IP crime, including jurisdictional fragmentation, limited law enforcement resources of authorities and a need for greater international cooperation.
A key feature of the 2025 edition was the strategic alignment with the European Union’s priorities in the fight against organised crime, with the summit taking place in the context of the EU Council’s adoption of its conclusions on the enhancement of the European Multidisciplinary Platform Against Criminal Threats (EMPACT) and the establishment of priorities for the new cycle 2026–2029. In this context, IP crime was confirmed as a sub-priority within the new priority on “Economic and Financial Crimes”. This decision reconfirms the EU’s commitment to safeguarding innovation, protecrting consumers and tackling organised criminal networks on a global scale.
The delegation of the Republic of Moldova was composed of representatives of the State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI), the Customs Service, the National Investigation Inspectorate and members of the IPR Enforcement Observatory of the Republic of Moldova. The participation provided the delegation with the opportunity to learn from the experiences of other states, to adopt good practices and to strengthen regional and international cooperation in the field of intellectual property rights enforcement.
We would like to mention that the participation of the delegation of the Republic of Moldova in the summit was made possible thanks to the support provided by the Project “Strengthening Intellectual Property Rights in Moldova and Ukraine” (EU4IP), funded by the European Union and implemented by the EUIPO.
