Europe Day is marked annually by the European Community and partner countries on 9 May. The feast was set up in memory of French foreign minister, Robert Schuman. At a speech in Paris in 1950, Robert Schuman proposed to establish a new form of political cooperation in Europe that would forever eliminate the possibility of a new war between European nations. This day is considered the date of initiation of European integration.
