Intellectual Property, on the Agenda of Discussions During the Meeting of the Joint Moldovan-American Committee on Trade-Economic Cooperation

The sixth meeting of the Joint Moldovan-American Committee on Trade-Economic Cooperation was held on March 28, in Chisinau.

The delegation of the United States of America was led by the Deputy Trade Representative of the USA, Jayme White, and the delegation of the Republic of Moldova, by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization, Dumitru Alaiba.

The priorities of bilateral cooperation and ways to make Moldovan-American trade-economic cooperation more efficient were discussed during the event. Among the topics that were addressed at this committee were: the facilitation of trade between the Republic of Moldova and the United States of America, the importance of the transparency of legislation and regulatory practices, the commitments of continuous recognition of international standards, and also the improvement of the investment attractiveness of the Republic of Moldova, with an emphasis on economic cooperation and the field of information technology.

At the same time, the importance and benefits for economic growth deriving from the enforcement of intellectual property rights were highlighted.

During the meeting, the Director General of the State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI), Eugeniu Rusu, familiarized the US delegation with the latest developments in the field of intellectual property in the Republic of Moldova, the discussions focusing in particular on intellectual property rights (IPRs) enforcement.

The U.S. delegation was also informed about the mechanism for IPRs enforcement in the Republic of Moldova, the powers of the intellectual property office and the authorities responsible for monitoring enforcement of intellectual property rights, as well as about the latest legislative developments in the field.

The idea of drawing up the National Report on the Enforcement of IPRs in the Republic of Moldova, as well as the Annual Report, both providing important statistics and of major interest to investors, was welcomed during the intellectual property discussions at the sixth meeting of the Joint Moldovan-American Committee on Trade-Economic Cooperation.

The U.S. delegation noted the efforts made by our country for infrastructure development and reforms initiated in the economic field. The officials pointed out the openness of the American partners for deepening the trade-economic cooperation between the USA and the Republic of Moldova.
