The State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI) organized on April 26, this year, an intellectual property information workshop dedicated to members of the European Law Students’ Association (ELSA). The event was organized in the context of World Intellectual Property Day, whose theme this year was “Intellectual Property and Youth - Innovating for a Better Future”.
In the opening, the Director General of AGEPI, Eugeniu Rusu, congratulated the students’ initiative to participate in such extra-curricular events, as well as mentioned that he was part of this organization during his studies. The discussions focused on intellectual property rights and their role in the development of a sustainable society, focusing in particular on copyright and related rights and concrete examples of infringements, etc.
During the event, Andrei Moisei, Principal Consultant in the Communication and Training Division, Communication and International Relations Department of AGEPI, spoke about the current regulatory and institutional framework in the field of IP, the subject and object of the action related to intellectual property conflicts, about identifying all aspects related to the limit of exclusive rights.
Also during the training workshop, AGEPI and ELSA signed a Cooperation Agreement in the field of intellectual property.
The agreement implies the cooperation of the two parties in the participation/organization of instructive-informative events (lessons/seminars/training courses/roundtables) in the field of protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights for ELSA members; providing access to public information in the field of intellectual property and to reference information and documentation sources; providing, upon request, consultancy in the field of intellectual property, etc.

ELSA (The European Law Students’ Association) was founded in Vienna on May 4, 1981, by a group of students from Poland, Austria, Hungary, and West Germany (Federal Republic of Germany). The basic idea was to promote international cooperation and mutual understanding among law students on both sides of the Iron Curtain. In a very short time, the association developed, extending to the northern part of Europe. ELSA currently has over 60,000 members in 44 countries, covering 432 law faculties.
In the Republic of Moldova, ELSA appeared in 2014, at the initiative of several students from the law faculty of the State University of Moldova and with the support of ELSA Iasi. There are now 4 local groups in Moldova: Police Academy “Stefan cel Mare”, AESM, FIUM, SUM.
