Denmark and Romania will make the European Program “Support for the implementation and enforcement of intellectual property rights in the Republic of Moldova”

The Consortium formed by the Danish Patent and Trademark Office (DKPTO) and the State Office for Inventions and Trademarks of Romania (OSIM ) won the tender announced by the EU in the end of 2009 for completion MD09/ENP-PCA/OT/04 program “Support to implementation and enforcement of intellectual property in rights in the Republic of Moldova”.

Beneficiaries of this Program are the State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI), and other central public administration institutions of the Republic of Moldova and organizations empowered with responsibilities in the field of intellectual property rights enforcement.

Program implementation will focus on three main components:

  • strengthening the administrative capacities of AGEPI;
  • strengthening institutional capacities of institutions responsible for realizing the legislation in the field of protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights;
  • improving the dialogue with the rights holders and training the AGEPI staff, invoked in public opinion awareness on issues related to IP rights.

The Danish-Roman Consortium representatives (Nymann Keld Jensen, deputy director-general, DKPTO, project leader, Lone Pie Kelstrup, Senior Adviser, DKPTO, Kenny Wright, Senior Adviser, DKPTO, TWINNING RTA, and Bogdan Boreschievici, Director of the National collection, computing and services, OSIM junior project leader) were undertaken during March 9-12, 2010 a working visit to Chisinau, with the purposes of elaboration of the implementing the contract of TWINNING program.

The Program development will start immediately after signing the implementation Contract by the Parties.

According to the agenda of the visit, representatives of Danish-Romanian Consortium had a series of working meetings with representatives AGEPI, the Customs Service, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, State Commission for testing the new varieties of plants, and with representatives of the Association “Copyright and Related Rights” of the Republic of Moldova (AsDAC) and the Union of Producers of Phonograms and Videograms.

Through TWINNING project, there will be establishing a partnership between specialized institutions of the EU Member States and institutions of the Republic of Moldova in order to transfer knowledge and best practices in the field of protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights in our country.
