Constructive Dialogue between AGEPI and the National Association of Restaurants and Recreation Facilities

The administration of the State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI) had a meeting today with Aneta Zasavitchi, President of the National Association of Restaurants and Recreation Facilities of the Republic of Moldova (MAR).

Discussions during the meeting focused on the challenges in the field of copyright and related rights, as well as the actions to be taken jointly in order to enforce the rights of holders of copyright and related rights and to ensure a balance including between the interests of users in this segment. The parties also discussed about the urgent need to review the contractual relations of economic agents with collective management organizations (CMOs), the collection of remuneration for copyright and related rights, the strengthening of the existing system, including the need to improve legislation in this area, in accordance with international norms. The subject of drafting a new law on copyright and related rights was also addressed, which would provide in particular rules regarding the amount and method of payment of author remuneration for each case and how to use the works.

The Director General of AGEPI, Eugeniu Rusu, underlined during the meeting that: “The State Agency on Intellectual Property is open for continuous cooperation with the representatives of the HoReCa sector. Our absolute priority is to enfiorce copyright and related rights in the Republic of Moldova. Only together, as a team, will we be able to face the challenges and, finally, to benefit and enjoy the respect of the rights of all parties involved in this process. I urge you to show openness and initiative in order to relaunch a constructive dialogue in resolving all conflicts or situations that have arisen. I assure you that AGEPI will always act as a guarantor of compliance with the law.”

The participants showed their interest and willingness to continue the discussions in subsequent meetings in order to address other aspects related to copyright and related rights in the Republic of Moldova.
