AGEPI representative participated in the works of the 27th session of the Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights (SCCR)

In the period from April 28th – May 2nd, 2014, at the headquarter of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Geneva, Switzerland, were held the works of the 27th session of the Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights (SCCR) . The session was attended by over 170 delegates fr om 95 countries and 50 Intergovernmental and non-accredited organizations.

The session addressed current issues of copyright and recent achievements and development perspectives of the International System of Protection. According to the working agenda, there were discussed the following subjects: protection of rights of the broadcasting organizations; exceptions and limitations to copyright for libraries and archives; exceptions and limitations to copyright for educational and research institutions.

Meantime, on April 30th 2014, during the works of the SCCR Committee, representatives of France, Greece, India and the European Union signed the Marrakesh Treaty to Facilitate Access to Published Works for Persons Who Are Blind, Visually Impaired or Otherwise Print Disabled. Thus, currently there are 64 signatory states of the treaty.

Marrakesh Treaty was adopted on June 28th, 2013, in Marrakesh, Singapore, the Republic of Moldova being among the first countries that signed the treaty at the time of adoption.

Also, in the works of the SCCR committee, a Round-Table entitled "Lim itations and exceptions for libraries and law education institutions" has been organized by the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions, with the support of the Foundation "eIFL.net" (Electronic Information for Libraries). Discussions focused mainly on extension of the work formats for libraries and educational institutions from material to electronic support.

At the next 28th session of the Committee, participants shall approach two topics of dramatic significance: protection of rights of the broadcasting organizations and the legal framework of the exceptions and lim itations.
