AGEPI presents the Annual Activity Report for 2021

The State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI) announces the launch of the Annual Report, which reflects the complex and multilateral activity of the institution during 2021.

The year 2021, although still marked by the Covid-19 pandemic, allowed the smooth conduct of the procedures for the examination of applications and grant of legal protection for intellectual property objects (IPOs) and optimization of some of them, the conclusion of new cooperation agreements, the consolidation of international and regional cooperation, the organization of important national and international events (mainly in online format), the continuation of the process of harmonization of the normative framework in the field of IP.

The Report contains eloquent and conclusive statistical data on the results obtained in 2021, presented in a dynamic format, on each segment of AGEPI’s activity, namely: IPO patenting/registration activity, legal activity, promotion and international relations, institutional management.

An increase in the number of applications for the grant of IPO protection was observed in 2021: 5812 applications, compared to 5705 in 2020. During the same period, the growth trend in the chapter Online filing of applications and related documents through the e-agepi.md service has been maintained: from 2038 in 2020 to 2305 in 2021. Applications for the grant of protection and renewal of trademark protection - the most requested intellectual property object, registered an increase by 1.94% compared to the previous period under both the national and international procedure. There is also an increase in the field of patenting, thus increasing the number of patents and short-term patents, which is 69 and 109, respectively, compared to 44 and 89 in 2020. The situation with regard to other intellectual property objects has remained at the level of previous years.

In addition to statistics, the Report also contains information on the main achievements of 2021, such as: approval of the Strategic Development Plan of AGEPI for the years 2022-2024; election of the representative of the Republic of Moldova, Ambassador Tatiana Molcean, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Moldova to the UN Office in Geneva and other International Organizations based in Geneva, as Chair of the WIPO General Assembly for 2022-2023; signing of the Action Plan on bilateral cooperation with the EPO for the 2022-2023 biennium, implementation of the KnowING IPR Project “Fostering Innovation in the Danube Region through Knowledge Engineering and IPR Management”, co-funded by the European Union through the Danube Transnational Programme, etc.

Among the most notable events were: Contest in the Field of IP for Young People, High-Level Meeting EUIPO - Balkan Countries and the Republic of Moldova, Bilateral Meeting of the Republic of Moldova’s Delegation with the Director General of WIPO, International Specialized Exhibition INFOINVENT, 17th edition in online format, International Innovation Conference “Artificial Intelligence, Innovation and Intellectual Property”, etc.

Towards the end, the priority actions of AGEPI for 2022 are presented, meant to contribute to the development and increase of performance in all areas of competence and to ensure the continuity and finality of the implementation process of the Strategic Development Plan of AGEPI.
