The delegation of the Republic of Moldova participated from November 17 to 21, 2025, in the work of the 35th session of the Committee on Development and Intellectual Property (CDIP/35), held in Geneva, within the framework of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). The delegation included representatives of the State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI) and the Mission of the Republic of Moldova to the UN and other International Organizations in Geneva.
The agenda of the current session of the CDIP included the presentation of reports on the implementation of the Development Agenda recommendations, the ongoing Development Agenda projects and proposals for new initiatives in areas such as intellectual property and public health, technical cooperation, the development of the music sector or reinforcing the national IP systems for resilience.
An important topic for the Republic of Moldova during the current session concerned the project “Development of Strategies and Tools to Address Cross-Border Trade in Counterfeit Trademark Goods”, proposed by the United Kingdom jointly with Lesotho, Republic of Moldova, Saudi Arabia, and Thailand. The project aims to identify modern tools and effective strategies to address the cross-border circulation of counterfeit goods, thus strengthening the protection of trademarks at the national and international levels.
The delegation of the Republic of Moldova was actively involved in the discussions on the project with the objective of obtaining the support of WIPO Member States for including the project on the agenda of the next session of the CDIP for consideration.
In his speech, Mr. Marin Cebotari, Deputy Representative of the Mission of the Republic of Moldova in Geneva, emphasized the importance that our country attaches to the enforcement of intellectual property rights and the strengthening of international cooperation in preventing the cross-border circulation of counterfeit goods. “As a country with an economy in transition, the Republic of Moldova attaches particular importance to the development dimension of IP rights. The project is designed in particular to strengthen national institutional capacities, support creative industries and local innovators, and promote law enforcement approaches consistent with international socio-economic objectives and in close alignment with national development priorities,” the country statement of the Republic of Moldova states.
The delegation of the Republic of Moldova also participated in the discussions and review of other projects proposed for consideration by the Committee, including Senegal’s proposal for financing the project “Strengthening Sports Development through Intellectual Property (IP) in African Countries”, as well as the projects submitted by Venezuela and Dominica.
Another important moment of the session was the presentation of the winners of the competition organized on the occasion of the first edition of the Intellectual Property Examiners Day (IP Examiners Day), celebrated on November 11, 2025. The event was dedicated to recognizing the crucial role of examiners in protecting and developing intellectual property systems at the national and global levels.
AGEPI’s participation in CDIP/35 highlighted the continued commitment of the Republic of Moldova to the development of the intellectual property system, strengthening institutional capacities and active involvement in WIPO’s multilateral initiatives. Through its contribution to the discussions on strategic projects and by participating in events dedicated to professionals in the field, the Republic of Moldova reconfirms its role as an active partner in promoting a modern and efficient intellectual property ecosystem.
