The State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI) hosted from 24 to 27 March 2025 the Expert Mission, organized within the framework of the Technical Assistance and Information Exchange Instrument (TAIEX) of the European Commission. The event aimed to strengthen institutional capacities and support the process of aligning national legislation in the field of geographical indications (GI) with European Union regulations, with a view to integrating the Republic of Moldova into the European legal space of intellectual property.
Opening the event, Natalia Mogol, Deputy Director General of AGEPI, stressed the importance of protecting geographical indications for the development of the agri-food sector and for increasing the competitiveness of Moldovan products on international markets.
During the mission, the European experts, Bartolomeo Filadelfia, representative of the Italian Ministry of Agriculture, and Magdalena Glodek, specialist in quality systems and programs from the Polish Ministry of Agriculture, reconfirmed the support they are ready to offer to the Republic of Moldova in order to align the legislation with European standards and strengthen institutional capacities to ensure effective protection and increased recognition of traditional products with guaranteed origin.
On 24-25 March, a Workshop was held, during which the national legislation and the requirements imposed by the European regulations were analyzed. The event was attended by specialists from the national institutions responsible for regulating and managing the geographical indications system, including representatives of AGEPI, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, the National Office of Vine and Wine and the National Agency for Food Safety. The experts presented models of good practices from the European Union, and the participants were involved in interactive sessions to better understand the process of homologation of specifications, verification of product conformity and protection of geographical indications.
In the following days, the European experts and AGEPI specialists conducted joint exercises of comparative analysis of national legislation with European regulations, with the objective of identifying the necessary measures for harmonization. At the end of the mission, the TAIEX team and AGEPI specialists developed a report with recommendations for improving the regulatory framework and the efficient implementation of regulations in the field of geographical indications. The conclusions and proposals formulated will contribute to strengthening the system of protection and promotion of products with geographical indication from the Republic of Moldova, facilitating their access to European markets.
AGEPI reaffirms its commitment to supporting European integration efforts by developing a modern and efficient legislative framework, aimed at ensuring the recognition and protection of domestic products at the international level.
