The State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI) and the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) signed on March 17, 2026, a Memorandum of Understanding in the field of intellectual property.
The signing ceremony took place on the sidelines of the Annual Meeting of the Partners of the European Union Project “Strengthening Intellectual Property Rights in Armenia, Moldova and Ukraine” (EU4IP), held from March 17 to 18, 2026, at the EUIPO headquarters in Alicante, Spain.
The Memorandum was signed by Ms. Natalia Mogol, Deputy Director of AGEPI, and Mr. João Negrão, Executive Director of the EUIPO, who appreciated the high level of bilateral cooperation and reaffirmed the joint commitment to deepening it.
The document establishes the framework for bilateral cooperation between AGEPI and EUIPO in areas of mutual interest, with the main objective of strengthening the national intellectual property system and facilitating its alignment with European Union standards. In this context, the Memorandum aims to develop cooperation in areas such as the exchange of best practices, the harmonization of examination procedures, the use and integration of European tools and databases, the modernization of IT systems, including through the use of emerging technologies, the organization of training programs and the strengthening of institutional capacities, as well as cooperation in the field of enforcement of intellectual property rights.
The signing of the Memorandum contributes to the deepening of cooperation between AGEPI and EUIPO and represents an important step in the integration of the Republic of Moldova into the European intellectual property ecosystem. At the same time, the document supports the implementation of the recommendations formulated in the 2025 European Commission’s Enlargement Report and the implementation of the actions provided for in the National Programme for Accession to the European Union for the period 2025–2029.
The annual meeting of the EU4IP project partners brought together delegations from the three beneficiary states – Armenia, Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova – as well as representatives of the EUIPO and the European Commission. The delegation of the Republic of Moldova included representatives of AGEPI, the Office for European Integration and the Ministry of Justice.
During the meeting, the participants reviewed the progress achieved in timplementing the EU4IP project, exchanged experiences and established priorities for the next period, with a view to strengthening national intellectual property systems and using them as a driver for innovation, competitiveness and economic development.
For the Republic of Moldova, the support provided by the EUIPO through the EU4IP project directly contributes to the achievement of the objectives assumed in the process of accession to the European Union, in particular under Chapter 7 “Intellectual Property Law”.
By signing the Memorandum of Understanding, AGEPI and EUIPO reaffirm their commitment to continue cooperation in order to develop a modern, efficient and fully aligned intellectual property system with European standards, for the benefit of the business environment, creators and society as a whole.
