On July 9, 2025, a bilateral meeting was held between the Director General of the State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI), Mr. Eugeniu Rusu, and the Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Mr. Daren Tang. The meeting took place in the context of the participation of the delegation of the Republic of Moldova in the Sixty-Sixth Series of Meetings of the Assemblies of the Member States of WIPO, organized in Geneva from July 8 to 17, 2025.
During the meeting, Mr. Eugeniu Rusu expressed gratitude to the Director General of WIPO and his team for the constant support provided to the Republic of Moldova in the process of modernizing the national intellectual property system and strengthening institutional capacities, including legislative consultancy, professional training of AGEPI staff, as well as the digitalization of operational processes. Mr. Rusu also emphasized that in the context of the association process with the European Union, one of the current priorities of the institution is to align the regulatory framework with EU legislation and ensure the effective implementation of legislation, so that it contributes substantially to the economic and cultural development of the Republic of Moldova.
In turn, the Director General of WIPO, Mr. Daren Tang, particularly appreciated the active engagement of the Republic of Moldova within WIPO, highlighting the substantial contribution of our country to the process of negotiation and signing of the Riyadh Design Law Treaty. The high-ranking official also welcomed the continuous efforts of the Republic of Moldova to align the national intellectual property system with international standards, as well as the country’s European path. Mr. Tang reiterated WIPO’s readiness to extend the support offered to the Republic of Moldova, both in the process of taking over the European Union acquis, and in the development of efficient mechanisms for the application of legislation.
The meeting was also attended by the Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to the Swiss Confederation, the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Moldova to the UN Office in Geneva and other international organizations based in Geneva, H.E. Vladimir Cuc. In his intervention, the Ambassador appreciated WIPO’s openness and continuous support to the needs of the Republic of Moldova and reconfirmed our country’s commitment to actively contribute to WIPO’s activities, including the successful completion of the current work of the 66th session of the WIPO Assemblies.
It should be noted that the annual Assemblies of the World Intellectual Property Organization bring together, from July 8 to 17, 2025, over 200 delegations from the 194 WIPO Member States, as well as representatives of international and regional organizations interested in the field of intellectual property.
