The representative of the State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI), Liliana Vieru, Head of the Communication, International Relations and European Integration Department, participated from 6 to 9 May 2025 in the 34th session of the Committee on Development and (Intellectual Property CDIP), convened by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), at the WIPO headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.

The meeting was attended by delegations from 92 WIPO Member States and 27 organizations with observer status. The session was opened by Hasan Kleib, Deputy Director General of the WIPO Regional and National Development Sector.

During the session, the Republic of Moldova endorsed the statements of the Central European and Baltic States (CEBS) Group, expressing strong support for the WIPO Development Agenda and for projects aimed at using intellectual property as a tool to support economic, social and cultural development.

The AGEPI representative actively contributed to the discussions on the future program of the Committee, including in identifying the themes for the next editions of the International Conference on Intellectual Property and Development. Thus, the 2027 conference will address the theme “Unlocking an IP Ecosystem Conducive to Innovation: SMEs, IP Finance and Development”, and the 2029 conference will be dedicated to the topic “IP and Tourism”.

At the same time, the Republic of Moldova, together with the CEBS states and representatives of the states from Regional Group B, supported the initiative of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland on the development and implementation of a project aimed at developing strategies and tools to address cross-border trade in counterfeit goodss. The project is to be examined and submitted for approval at the CDIP session in November 2025.

The Committee’s work was preceded by the International Conference on Intellectual Property and Development entitled “The Role of IP and Innovation in Addressing Global Public Health Challenges: Fostering Technological Transfer and Collaborations” which took place at WIPO on 5 May 2025. The event brought together high-level representatives and experts from Member State governments, international organizations, civil society, academia and the private sector, and explored the role of intellectual property and innovation in addressing global public health challenges in a post-pandemic era.

One of the conference panels was dedicated to innovation in the field of occupational health and safety. In this context, a recent report prepared by WIPO in collaboration with the International Labour Organization (ILO) was presented, which provides a global analysis of patents granted for technologies designed to make workplaces safer, highlighting trends in the prediction, detection and protection of workplace accidents. Participation in the CDIP and related events reflects AGEPI’s commitment to actively contribute to international intellectual property policies and to promote good practices and cooperation for sustainable development through the effective use of intellectual property.
