The Piracy and Counterfeiting Phenomena at the Centre of Attention of Journalists

Journalists from 15 media institutions of the Republic of Moldova participated in an Offline entitled “Impact of Intellectual Property Rights Infringement on Society”, organized by the State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI), jointly with the EU Project “Support to Enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights” in the Republic of Moldova. The purpose of such an event was to inform journalists about the impact of piracy and counterfeit products on business environment and society.

The event began with an informal and open discussion with AGEPI Director General Lilia Bolocan on issues related to the creation, legal protection and use of intellectual property objects, as well as the enforcement of intellectual property rights in the Republic of Moldova. Lilia Bolocan has assured journalists that they have all the support of the specialists of the State Agency on Intellectual Property in the information process on the field of intellectual property.

Subsequently, the experts of the EU Project “Support to Enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights” in the Republic of Moldova spoke to the journalists about the intellectual property offenses in the online environment, the challenges for our country and the possible solutions.

The participants were active, giving questions about the field of intellectual property in the Republic of Moldova.

At the end of the event, the award of the journalists who won the AGEPI contest on the reflection of the intellectual property issue launched in May, this year took place.

Thus, the laureates of the contest became:

  • Dumitrita Ciuvaga, Bizlaw.md;
  • Petru Beregoi, Realitatea.md;
  • Tatiana Fiser, Radio Moldova;
  • Elena Gutu, TVR Moldova.

To the Contest for Journalists for the best coverage in the mass media of issues related to the development and strengthening of the national intellectual property protection system, the enforcement and utilization of intellectual property rights were presented papers published by journalists during the period January 1, 2017 - May 1, 2018.

The AGEPI further encourages journalists to publish materials with which citizens of the Republic of Moldova can get acquainted themselves with the field of intellectual property.
