Training Seminar on Enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights for MIA Representatives

In the context implementation of the Twinning Project “Support to Implementation and Enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights in the Republic of Moldova”, in the period of May 30 to June 2 this year, at the Academy “Stefan cel Mare” of the Ministry of Internal Affairs was held a training seminar on enforcement of intellectual property rights for MIA representatives. Said activity is part of Component 2 of the named Project – “Improving Enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights”, focused on ensuring protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights in the Republic of Moldova.

The purpose of the seminar was to increase and consolidate the MIA staff capacity in terms of ensuring the enforcement of intellectual property rights, taking over the best practices and experiences of EU Member States in the field.

The seminar was attended by international experts: Chris VANSTEENKISTE, chief of crimes against intellectual property rights division under Europol, Dan BUCUR, director of fraud investigation department, the Romanian General Police Inspectorate, Kenneth WRIGHT, Project Twinning (CRT) Resident Adviser and representatives of rights holders, specialists in the field of the government institutions responsible for the protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights. The opening of the seminar was attended by Mr. Ion TIGANAS, Deputy Director General AGEPI, and Agency also coming with a report on issues addressed during the seminar.

EU experts presented both theoretical and practical examples in the field of intellectual property rights protection in the European Union. Also, they have familiarized the audience with the European legislation, methods of identification of goods that infringe intellectual property rights, evidence collection, cooperation with other government agencies, with holders of rights, international law enforcement agencies, being put under discussion various case studies focused on the topic subjects.

Trainers have encouraged the 25 participants in the seminar to interact and to share their experience dealing with their practice on application of intellectual property legislation, legal aspects in force in the Republic of Moldova, aiming to ensure the exchange of experience and assimilation of case studies on the subject concerned.

MIA employees have taken an active part in the seminar, which will have a positive impact on the process of implementing the intellectual property rights in our country.

We remind that in the implementation of the Twinning Project “Support to Implementation and Enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights in the Republic of Moldova” take part two partner institutions of the EU Member States – the Danish Patent and Trademark Office and the State Office for Inventions and Trademarks of Romania, and the national project beneficiaries are the State Agency on Intellectual Property of the Republic of Moldova, Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Justice, Customs Service and Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry.

The project comes to help improve the communication mechanism between governmental institutions responsible for the protection of intellectual property rights, strengthen the institutional capacities of these institutions and organizations for the collective administration of economic rights, to increase the level of public awareness on the importance of protecting and respecting intellectual property rights.
