The State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI) participated on March 31, 2026, in the session “Intellectual Property for Deeptech MVPs: What to Protect, What to Share, and What to Keep”, dedicated to intellectual property aspects in the context of innovative product development and collaboration between researchers and academic institutions.

The event was organized at iHUB Chișinău Yellow by Technovator, within the Innovate Moldova Programme, funded by Sweden and the United Kingdom, and brought together master’s and doctoral students, researchers, technology professionals, and startup founders.

On behalf of AGEPI, the session was attended by Andrei Moisei, principal specialist in the Promotion and Training Section, who presented relevant information on the protection of intellectual property (IP) objects, the applicable national normative framework, as well as the particularities of IP rights management in the academic environment. His intervention also targeted the specific challenges encountered in the fields of emerging technologies, such as HealthTech, EnergyTech, AgriFood and FinTech, in the process of developing and using minimum viable products (MVP).

During the session, participants had the opportunity to delve deeper into essential aspects related to:

  • identifying MVP components susceptible to protection (algorithms, databases, models);
  • rules applicable to intellectual property generated within universities;
  • delimitation between information that can be disclosed publicly and information requiring protection by confidentiality;
  • the importance of cooperation agreements in the early stages of project development.

At the same time, practical examples were presented and the differences between patent protection and trade secret protection in the deeptech field were analyzed, highlighting also the common pitfalls that impact effective intellectual property protection.

During the event, AGEPI disseminated relevant information and promotional materials intended to support researchers and innovators in the process of protecting and using their creations.

AGEPI’s participation in this session contributed to strengthening the level of information and awareness among participants on the importance of proper intellectual property rights management, while also providing a practical framework for dialogue and exchange of experience in the field of innovation.
