The Deputy Director General of the State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI), Natalia Mogol, participated from March 6 to 8, 2024, in the annual Women’s Entrepreneurship Symposium, organized by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). The event took place at the USPTO headquarters in the United States of America.

The event, which took place over three days, brought together intellectual property specialists and professionals to discuss current topics and cooperate on the development of programs aimed at supporting the global advancement of women in the innovation economy.

Also, in the opening of the event, the Director General of AGEPI, Eugeniu Rusu, sent a recorded video message, underlining the importance of the theme and the institution’s commitment to promoting and supporting women in the field of innovation and intellectual property, both nationally and internationally.

This edition’s theme, “Global Advancement of Women in the Innovation Economy: Accelerating the Achievement of Women and Girls in STEAM and in IP Education to Bring Ideas to Impact,” was addressed through a diverse program. Participants were engaged in discussions on topics such as initiatives to engage youth and underrepresented communities in the field of intellectual property, addressing the gender gap, potential cooperations with various stakeholders, and ways to use data to promote the inclusion of women in intellectual property.

During the Women’s Entrepreneurship Symposium, organized in the context of International Women’s Day (March 8, 2024), the commitment to support women in the management of intellectual property offices was reiterated; women working as lawyers/authorized attorneys in the field of IP, as well as women creators, entrepreneurs and innovators.

By participating in this symposium, AGEPI had the chance to strengthen its international partnerships, learn from good practices and explore new ways to promote women’s involvement in the field of intellectual property.

Moreover, we should note that a Memorandum of Understanding was signed on March 6, this year, between AGEPI and the USPTO. The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding in the field of industrial property is timely and welcome for the development and strengthening of cooperation relations in the field of intellectual property protection between the two offices, which will bring significant benefits to both countries, by promoting innovation, increasing competitiveness and effective protection of intellectual property rights.
