Users and collective rights management organizations opt for effective protection and management of copyright and related rights in the Republic of Moldova
The protection and collective management of copyright and related rights was raised at a meeting between users and collective organizations, which took place on May 24, at AGEPI as part of the EU Project ”Support to Enforcement of the Intellectual Property Rights” in the Republic of Moldova.
According to the agenda, the participants discussed facilitating dialogue between users and organizations for collective copyright management, obligations of the parties and how they should work together for more effective protection and management.
The expert of the EU Project and Deputy Director of the Romanian Copyright Office, Irina Lucan Arjoca, made a presentation about the Romanian collective management system of copyright and related rights, talked about the administration fees retained by the Romanian collective management organizations and the ways on mediation of conflicts.
The representatives of copyright management organizations have opted for an honest relationship based on negotiation and exchange of information, for the need to report on the collection and distribution of remuneration in the agreed period and format, in accordance with sectoral standards. The representatives believe the enforcement of the intellectual property system in the field of copyright and neighboring rights will stimulate creativity and facilitate the development of a cultural and economic environment in our country.
Representatives of AGEPI, collective rights management organizations, national ICT operators, business associations and users of copyright and related rights participated in the meeting.
The EU Project ” Support to Enforcement of the Intellectual Property Rights” in the Republic of Moldova is funded by the European Union and implemented by a Consortium of Archidata LLC (Italy), European Profiles S.C. (Greece) and Business and Strategies in Europe (Belgium). The project has a duration of two years and ends in November 2018.
