Creation and Innovation: Republic of Moldova impresses at the WIPO General Assembly in Geneva

The Central European and Baltic States Regional Group (CEBS Group), of which the Republic of Moldova is a part in the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), is organizing a special event within the 64th Series of Meetings of the Assemblies of the Member States of WIPO, which takes place from July 6 to 14, 2023, in Geneva, Switzerland.

The official opening of this event took place on July 7, which brings together the Member States of the CEBS Group to promote the design products, cultural and culinary traditions of each Member State.

The event hosts a series of activities such as: the opening of the design exhibition entitled “She inspires. Women’s designs from CEBS”, a fashion show with fashion collections from all CEBS countries and a musical/artistic performance combined with a reception with traditional products from each member country of the Central European and Baltic States Regional Group.

The design exhibition is one of the main attractions of this year’s Annual Meetings, given that WIPO has dedicated the year 2023 to women inventors, creators and entrepreneurs around the world.

Design objects created by remarkable women are presented during the CEBS joint exhibition. The Republic of Moldova is proudly represented by Oxana Zaporoniuc, the winner of the most prestigious European award for the innovative design of a cardboard packaging for the safe transportation of liquids, similar to a LEGO game. Also, handmade jewelry made of epoxy resin and natural plants, made by Lurity creators - sisters Ana Carabetchi and Alina Iamboglo, are elegantly presented during the exhibition. The participants in the General Assembly of WIPO Member States have also the opportunity to admire the hats created by the talented Iuliana Chirosca.

Another highlight of the event was the fashion show, which featured unique collections from all CEBS countries. The Republic of Moldova participated in the fashion show with two smart clothes created with great inspiration by Daniela Baroncea, a student of the Design Department of the Technical University of Moldova.

Also, during the event, a musical/artistic show was held, which was combined with a reception that offered all participants for tasting traditional products from each CEBS member country. Thus, the delegates of the 193 states participating in the WIPO General Assembly had the opportunity to taste honey from Codrii Moldovei, Calarasi rose petal jam, dried fruits and fruit paste of Valea Răutului Valley and candies produced in the Republic of Moldova.

Through the active involvement of the State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI) in this event organized jointly with the members of the CEBS Group, the Republic of Moldova benefits from increased visibility in the international intellectual property community. Thus, AGEPI contributes to strengthening the image of the country as a center of innovation and creativity, supporting the development of the design sector and the promotion of local talents.
