In the period from 9 to 11 July 2013, in Chisinau, takes place the second meeting of the Interstate Council on Legal Protection and Defense of Intellectual Property.

In the work of the second meeting of the Interstate Council on Legal Protection and Defense of Intellectual Property participate plenipotentiary representatives and representatives of the PI offices of Republic of Armenia, Republic of Azerbaijan, Republic of Belarus, Georgia, Republic of Kazakhstan, republic of Kyrgyzstan, Russian Federation, Republic of Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Republic of Uzbekistan, Ukraine and Republic of Moldova.

Also, as observers, at the meeting are present responsible persons from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Eurasian Patent Organization (EAPO) and CIS Executive Committee.

The opening of the Interstate Council meeting is attended by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy of the Republic of Moldova Valeriu Lazar.

According to the working agenda, at the meeting of the Interstate Council are addressed several issues related to the protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights.

In the same period is also conducted the regional seminar entitled “Current Aspects of Intellectual Property”, organized by the State Agency on Intellectual Property of the Republic of Moldova (AGEPI) with the support of WIPO and EAPO. The seminar is attended by representatives of national IP offices from the member states of the Interstate Council and EAPO.

On Wednesday, July 10, in the seminar, AGEPI Director General Lilia Bolocan will present a report on the role of national intellectual property offices in developing the respect for intellectual property: policies and effective strategies.

The participants in the seminar will make an exchange of views on the latest achievements in the field of intellectual property registered at regional and international level, and will present the best practices for encouraging cooperation and collaboration through Internet in order to stimulate innovation and use intellectual property in business.

The first meeting of the Interstate Council on Legal Protection and Defense of Intellectual Property was held last year in Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyzstan.

The above-mentioned Interstate Council was established under the Agreement on Cooperation in the Field and Creation of the Interstate Council on Legal Protection and Defense of Intellectual Property, signed on 19 November 2010, in St. Petersburg.

The said Agreement has been approved by Government Decision of the Republic of Moldova no. 442 of 16.06.2011 and was submitted to Parliament for information.

The Interstate Council includes representatives of nine countries signatory of the Agreement: Republic of Armenia, Republic of Belarus, Republic of Kazakhstan, Republic of Kyrgyzstan, Russian Federation, Republic of Tajikistan, Republic of Uzbekistan, Ukraine, and Republic of Moldova.

The Agreement aims primarily at coordinating the joint activity on improving the interstate system for the protection and defense of intellectual property and for counteraction of offences in the field of intellectual property.
