AGEPI participated in the round table organized by the Scientific Medical Library of the State University of Medicine and Pharmacy “N. Testemitanu”

In order to promote and disseminate information on the national intellectual property protection system among professors and doctoral candidates, and in accordance with the Program of activities dedicated to World Intellectual Property Day, a group of AGEPI specialists participated in the work of the round table entitled “Creativity - The Next Generation”, organized on 29 April 2013 at the Scientific Medical Library of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy “N. Testemitanu”.

Roundtable “Creativity - The Next Generation”, held at the Scientific Medical Library, Information Center INFOMEDICA, was moderated by Eugenia Groza, Chief of Innovation, Marketing and Technology Transfer Division, Science Department, SUMP “Nicolae Testemitanu”. Guest of honor at the round table was the inventor Gheorghe Nicolau, Dr. Habilitate, professor, Head of Preventive Dentistry Department, SUMP, and participants - students, residents and doctoral candidates of the University.

Representatives of the State Agency on Intellectual Property of the Republic of Moldova presented reports on intellectual property protection in the field of medicine, databases in the field of patents and the role of inventions in the economic development of the country.

Viorel Iustin, Chief of Chemistry, Biology, Medicine Division, Inventions and Plant Varieties Department, AGEPI, familiarized students with the objects of a patented invention, patentability requirements of the invention, patent for invention and patent short-term patent for invention, objects excluded from patenting, objects that are not considered inventions, inventions excluded from patentability, patent owner’s rights, etc.

Petru Grosu, Deputy Director of the Inventions and Plant Varieties Department, AGEPI, informed the participants about the use of patent information and databases available on the AGEPI website, ways of working with them, possibilities for search of the required information, patents existing in these databases, etc.

About the role of inventions in the economic development reported Iurie Badar, Head of Economics and Finance Division, AGEPI, specifying IP typology, factors that determine the need for legal protection of intellectual products, premises of innovational transition to economic growth, specific character of innovation, main objectives of innovational transition, adequate IP management, etc.

Also, in the round table were discussed the possibility of access to ARDI Program (The Access to Research for Development and Innovation), coordinated by the World Intellectual Property Organization in cooperation with partners in the publishing industry (Rapporteur - Silvia Ciubrei, Deputy Director, Scientific Medical Library, SUMP “Nicolae Testemitanu”). It should be mentioned that ARDI Program aims to increase developing countries’ access to scientific and technical information in various fields of science and technology. Currently, through the ARDI Program researchers from 107 developing countries have access to over 10,000 scientific journals, books and other abstract works, provided by 17 publishers.
