On April 26, the member states of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) celebrate World Intellectual Property Day, to pay tribute to the contribution that intellectual property brings to innovation and creativity.
World Intellectual Property Day theme this year is “Digital Creativity: Culture Reimagined”.
Activities, events and public campaigns which are organized to mark World Intellectual Property Day aim to create a better understanding of the role of intellectual property as well as to demonstrate how the intellectual property system promotes not only products and technological innovations but also contribute to our future cultural development.
In Moldova, World Intellectual Property Day is celebrated through various actions to highlight the potential role of intellectual property in economic, cultural and social development of the country.
Thus, on the occasion of World Intellectual Property, State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI) has launched three contests of creativity:
- Interactive Interview “What is Intellectual Property associated with?”
- “Online interactive game in the field of intellectual property”
- Create an image on “Digital Creativity: Culture Reimagined”.
The purpose of the contests is to promote intellectual property information among young people and stimulate creativity and innovation process of young people.
The program of activities dedicated to the World Intellectual Property Day also encompasses the traditional annual Scientific-Practical Symposium “AGEPI Readings” to be held on 21-22 April this year, in the conference hall of AGEPI. The theme of this edition of the Symposium focuses on current issues of protection, use and enforcement of intellectual property, as well as staff training and retraining in the field.
Also in this period, AGEPI participates as a partner in the organization of a number of events among which: exhibition of works by students of the Technical University of Moldova “Creativity opens the Universe” and Contest “Rube Goldberg Machine” organized at TUM; Republican stage of the Olympiad in Economics and Republican Contest “Library - Partner in Promoting Intellectual Property”.
Festive meeting dedicated to the World Intellectual Property Day will be held on April 26, in the conference hall of AGEPI, with the participation of AGEPI Administration and representatives of public authorities, research and higher education institutions, creative unions, patent attorneys, businessmen, etc.
During the event will be designated the winners of contests of creativity carried out by AGEPI, will be mentioned the most active patent attorney of 2015, will be presented the Diploma of the World Intellectual Property Organization, to Valentina Bulimaga, laureate of WIPO Gold Medal for Inventors granted in the framework of ISE Infoinvent-2015, and will be handed the awards received by inventors from Moldova at the International Exhibition of Inventions in Geneva - 2016.
World Intellectual Property Day is marked since 2000, and April 26 is the day on which came into force the Convention establishing WIPO (1970).
