The Delegation of the Republic of Moldova led by Eugeniu Rusu, Director General of the State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI), in Geneva to participate in the 62nd Series of Meetings of the Assemblies of the Member States of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), participates in discussions and decision-making on topics on the working agenda, including approving the organization’s program and budget for the 2022-2023 biennium and reviewing the implementation of the WIPO Development Agenda.
In addition to attending WIPO Assembly sessions, AGEPI representatives had a series of bilateral meetings with representatives of different sectors of the organization to discuss bilateral cooperation activities and the support that WIPO can provide to the institution in achieving its objectives.
Thus, the AGEPI delegation had a working meeting with the representatives of the Section responsible for cooperation with the Central European and Baltic States, and Mediterranean countries, during which the stage of implementation of the Republic of Moldova - WIPO joint activities planned for 2021 was reviewed and were addressed the main directions of cooperation for the next period, which include such areas as geographical indications, artificial intelligence, promotion of innovation and creativity, education and training in the field of intellectual property (IP), etc.
In order to become more familiar with WIPO’s activity in the field of artificial intelligence, AGEPI representatives met with the Director of the IP and Frontier Technologies Division, Ulrike Till, who informed his colleagues in Chisinau about WIPO’s activity in this emerging field. The Director General of AGEPI thanked Ms. Till for the complex information and communicated about the interest of the Republic of Moldova and AGEPI to benefit from informational and consultative support to promote the potential of artificial intelligence in the Republic of Moldova. “Our country has a significant potential to use new technologies, such as artificial intelligence and wants to promote this innovative concept to benefit from all the opportunities it offers,” said Eugeniu Rusu.
The importance of promoting innovation and technology transfer at the national level was addressed during the meeting with the Technology and Innovation Support Division, during which a series of joint actions were agreed to be carried out with the support of WIPO for the creation in the Republic of Moldova of a network of technology and innovation support centers that will work with WIPO to strengthen the capacities and abilities of national research institutions for the management of inventions and patent information.
The delegation of the Republic of Moldova also had a series of bilateral meetings with the representatives of the national offices present at the meeting, including the delegations from Serbia, Albania, Turkey, Slovenia, etc.
