AGEPI, partner of National Science and Engineering Contest “Mold SEF 2016”

In the period 19-21 February 2016, in Chisinau took place the fourth edition of the National Sciences and Engineering Pupils Contest “Mold SEF”.

The contest was organized by the Ministry of Education, in collaboration with Intel in Kiev, Ukraine, and the National Association of ICT Companies.

In the context of supporting and stimulating creative ideas and inventions, the State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI) participated as a partner in this contest. Also, AGEPI experts were part of the contest jury.

At this year’s contest 85 students competed with 53 works from 32 educational institutions from different regions of the country.

The best projects were awarded mentions, I, II and III class diplomas, granted by the Ministry of Education, according to the three contest categories: sciences, applied sciences and information technologies, and special prizes from sponsors and partners: AGEPI, Starnet and Intel.

Winners of the 2016 contest were designated Dan Butmalai and the team formed of Diana Marusic and Emilia Savva.

Dan Butmalai, pupil at the Lyceum of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, proposed a methodology for discharging mines and unexploded artillery of any kind. The mechanism allows the sappers to identify and remove from distance, without exposing to risks, dangerous explosives and remnants of armed conflict.

One of the advantages of the algorithm is the possibility of applying in the field of databases so that only the user knowing the password has access to data, not the network administrator.

The awarding ceremony was attended by representatives of institutions involved in the organization of the event, partners and sponsors of this contest.

The guests congratulated the participants for the performance that they showed and expressed confidence that the country’s future is in the hands of ambitious and inventive young people.

In turn, AGEPI offered special mentions and monetary prizes to winners of first prizes to the three categories. Attending the event, Director General of AGEPI, Octavian Apostol, appreciated the contest “Mold SEF” as a platform for young people to exchange ideas and to promote their inventions and innovations created. At the same time, Octavian Apostol urged pupils to protect their technical and scientific creations fulfilling the conditions of novelty, inventive step and industrial applicability by patenting them, noting that AGEPI makes a compromise with young inventors, pupils being exempt from fees for obtaining a patent for invention.
